While the deterioration of eyesight usually raises our concern immediately, we sometimes treat hearing a bit neglectful. And this is a mistake because early detection of a slight hearing loss is a chance for a much more effective and faster cure. What is it and when is it worth doing a hearing test?

 

What is the hearing test?

While we may not notice minor hearing problems at the beginning, a major hearing loss is associated with a significant deterioration in our quality of life and even leads to social alienation. If we notice differences when it comes to hearing, we can perform a simple and free hearing test even at home. To take such test at home, it is necessary to have, for example, a computer or smartphone with Internet access. It is important to make sure to have headphones and speakers, which guarantees that the test will be carried out correctly. 

The free hearing test usually consists of a short, several-minute test in which you have to answer a few questions. Some of the questions also concern the auditioned recordings, thanks to which it is possible to determine what level of hearing loss is affecting you. After the test, you will receive a result that may indicate a visit to a professional doctor, for example, an audiologist, ENT specialist, or phoniatrist. 

How reliable is the free hearing test?

A free hearing test is not a substitute for seeing a specialist, but it is an excellent way to determine if you need to see one. First of all, you will find out if your hearing is okay or if you have moderate or severe hearing loss.  The test can be done without unnecessary stress, in the comfort of your home, and you do not need any specialized equipment.

How to do a hearing test?

As mentioned above, to take the hearing test, we need Internet access and a computer or smartphone. The use of headphones is also recommended. The test is short and simple - just follow the instructions and answer, and the test result will be displayed at the end. It is also important to take the test in a quiet and peaceful environment with no background noise - even slight outside sounds may interfere with proper hearing. 

Who can take a free hearing test?

This test has been designed for anyone who wants to check their hearing condition because, for some reason, they feel that their hearing has deteriorated in some way. The test can be performed by those with minor hearing problems and those who have already noticed quite a lot of problems in this regard. If it turns out that in our case, there is no question of even the slightest hearing loss, and yet we still have some concerns, then we can always contact a doctor who will conduct much more in-depth and broader examinations. However, if we get a positive result, for example, moderate or severe hearing loss, it is best to see a doctor as soon as possible.
