BMW M3 - Updated Sports Sedan and Wagon for Australia

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the updated BMW M3 series will debut in the Australian market, offering more power for all-wheel drive models and new infotainment technologies. BMW announced that the local 2025 M3 model lineup will be revealed "in due course." Currently available models include the base manual sedan, rear-wheel drive Competition sedan, and all-wheel drive Competition xDrive sedan and wagon.

Increased power and performance

In the latest version of the M3, all-wheel drive models receive a more powerful version of the existing 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine, already available in the related M4 Competition xDrive coupe and convertible. Power has increased to 390 kW, which is a 15 kW increase compared to the rear-wheel drive Competition model, which retains the same specifications for 2025.

Performance for the M3 series is as follows:

  • M3 manual: 353 kW, 550 Nm
  • M3 Competition: 375 kW, 650 Nm
    M3 Competition xDrive: 390 kW, 650 Nm

While the 0-100 km/h acceleration times for the M3 Competition xDrive sedan and Touring remain unchanged (3.5 and 3.6 seconds, respectively), both models are now half a second quicker to 200 km/h from a standstill (11.8 and 12.4 seconds, respectively).

Subtle visual changes and new interior features

The updated M3 series remains almost visually unchanged, with new headlights and alloy wheel designs introduced. The interior has received a new steering wheel design and the introduction of BMW Operating System 8.5, which features a "flatter" menu structure and customizable shortcut widgets on the driver’s side of the screen. This system also optimizes the operation of ventilation and climate control functions.

Prices for the updated BMW M3 series have not been announced yet, although the revised M4 saw price increases of $2200 to $3400. Currently, the base manual M3 sedan starts at $161,300 before on-road costs.
